A Darker and Crowded X-Men

It's been confirmed by Bryan Singer that the next X-Men film, Days of Future Past, will be in 3D. I really could care less about the 3D effects, and I just as well will watch the film in 2D. And although, in my opinion, will be crowded with a lot of characters and big name stars, it makes me a little concerned that the more people that is in the movie, the less screen time for the focus of the film to feature Magneto (Michael Fassbenber and Ian Mckellen). I like the Magneto character so much, well before Michael's impressive performance in First Class, and it has a lot to do with how Ian fleshed out that character and show Magneto/Erik to be a mutant who has been so damaged by humans, that all he wants is to protect his kind, at any cost. Surely we all can relate to that, and be moved by how charismatic and suave Magneto is. He and his kind have been bullied by humans all his life, and he just wants to fight back and defend himself and his kind. What's wrong with that? So it will be very interesting to see how Singer allows the story to evolve from young Erik to older Erik with both actors in the film, and their interactions with Erik's soul mate brother, Charles (James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart).

Singer confirmed that he will take advantage of Ian McKellen’s presence alongside Michael Fassbender to explore the moral conflict within Magneto in the film, ”It’s interesting. Because I have both Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender in the picture, you’ll deal with both sides of that point of view. It really explores the relationship between Xavier and Magneto, and the evolution of that relationship – where it came from and where it’s going.”


The filmmaker was also asked if ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ strikes a darker tone, similar to the ‘Dyas of Future Past’ comic book arc, “Yeah, I have a certain style when I approach X-Men films. This ones going to be a much larger canvas, it takes place during multiple times, it has an enormous cast and there’s also other technologies and stuff… there’s some science fictions aspects to it that we haven’t seen yet in X-Men films. But I’ll probably bring a bit of my old-school tone to this one. I’m very excited about it. I can’t wait to get started.”

The official synopsis of the ‘Days of Future Past’ comic book story arc is as follows:

“The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men. She succeeds in her mission and returns to the future, but despite her success, the future timeline still exists as an alternative timeline rather than as the actual future.”

In other news, it has been reported that on Friday night, Michael Fassbender treated his friends, Josh Brolin and Bradley Cooper to a round of drinks at Skybar at the Mondrian in Los Angeles, the boys night out was described as, “They were in good spirits having. It looked like a very relaxed night out,” the eyewitness said. Right now, I'm so stressed out from work and school that I could use a drink... but a cup chamomile will have to suffice.
