The BAFTA nominations were announced this morning in London and 12 Years a Slave received 10 nominations, with one of them being Michael Fassbender in the Supporting category. The awards ceremony will be on February 16th! As you will note, Michael's main competitor was not eligible to be nominated because the film hasn't been released in the UK yet. So as you will see, Michael is up against some other fine performances, but they too have had their work overshadowed by an easy to love character performance. Be that as it may, we still cannot take this category as something that will be smooth sailing for Michael Fassbender because I personally don't trust BAFTA - he has a poor history with them. Going back to their snub of Michael for Hunger in 2009, he didn't win the Rising Star award in 2009 either, it instead went to a lame Dr. Who actor, and Michael did not win for Shame in 2012. So while we can be happy Michael has been nominated for a BAFTA, we'll have to wait and see how he fairs with them on Feb. 16.
