The new Esquire interview with Michael Fassbender was done in Toronto at TIFF while Michael was there for his Soiree and promoting Trespass Against Us. Apparently he stayed at the lovely Ritz Carlton, which is funny because I spent a little time at the hotel because the lobby is always buzzing with beautiful people and media folk. Had I know Michael was staying there, I might have lingered around a bit more. But alas, we were like two ships passing in the night. Cedric Buchet, the photographer of the Esquire interview, captured Michael in a light that really shows him as a versatile leading man, ruggedly pretty handsome, smart, suave, and a bit wary of the side effects of his fame. Even though Michael's name may not be as familiar as say, Brad Pitt, Michael still needs a buffer zone from the insanity that his presence can cause when people who know him, demand his attention right then and there.
Can you imagine having the mindset, bordering along the paranoia realm, that while you're walking about in public, you need to have your head down, and ducking between objects in public just to avoid eye contact with strangers who will bother you? The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I dream of having enough wealth where I don't have to worry about paying rent or bills, travel to exotic places when I want, and treating myself to a day spa regularly. But to have the kind of wealth and fame where it is almost part of your job to be pleasant to total strangers... that's enough to make any normal person feel stressed and a bit neurotic. But in all, I think Michael Fassbender is handling everything well.
